INTERNATIONAL IDEAS COMPETITION. SELECTED PROPOSAL.
Authors: Luis Beriain ( lbs arquitectura ) + Jokine Crespo.
Client: Pamplona City Council.
Date: 2019-2025

The transformation of the Monument to the Fallen and its urban surroundings in Pamplona, on the border of the Second Ensanche and the new city, represents a milestone in the reinterpretation of commemorative spaces linked to the Franco regime. This process seeks to reinterpret the building, constructed in 1942 in honor of the Navarrese who died on the rebel side during the Civil War, to transform it into a center of democratic memory and a denunciation of fascism.

Transformation of Paseo Sarasate, Pamplona

IDEAS COMPETITION. AWARDED PROPOSAL.
Authors: Luis Beriain (lbs arquitectura) , Conchita Ruiz, Aritz Sáez, and Gerard Yubero.
Client: Pamplona City Council.
Date: 2019–2023

ZIP!! is the proposed transformation and renaturalization of Pamplona’s Paseo de Sarasate, the city’s central promenade facing the Parliament and Government of Navarre buildings. It also houses the Statue of the Fueros and a protected tree line, a remnant of the promenade’s former woodland outside the city walls. It is currently degraded and lacks cross-pollination. The project proposes complete pedestrianization on a single platform to reverse the current trench situation and once again provide the promenade with the status of an esplanade connecting the old town and the Ensanche district; and a natural space connected to the city’s green corridor system.

Client: Mendaza City Council, Navarra. / Date: 2022

Starting from a pre-existing reinforced concrete structure from an unfinished project, consisting of a grid of pillars and a gabled roof slab facing inward, a second phase is planned to complete the building for a Rural Day Care Center (RDC). A passive envelope and a south-facing exterior porch are designed to act as a large brise-soleil for the center’s common room openings. Inside, a program is organized that provides the necessary spaces for the care, treatment, and daytime enjoyment of the elderly in the small urban centers of the municipality of Mendaza.
